Jonny B.
Jonny is a painter, printmaker and artist bookmaker based at Bloom Art Space in Malvern. His evocative images are an intuitive and sensory reaction to the natural environments of both Spain and the UK. He has an exuberant and vibrant use of colour combined with vigorous mark-making. He pours overlapping colours, scraping and scratching into the painted surface pigments to create a visceral and unique quality.
Detailed drawing and printing techniques are combined with other mixed media processes and his compositions are formed through meticulous preparation in sketchbooks. His vivid use of colour combines to create a dream-like serenity and to provide a sense of place. Constant sources of inspiration are the ever-changing seas, skies and landscapes he observes on his travels.
"Part of the creative process for me is immersing myself in the mark making not certain which direction to go in, or what to include in the work and how to fully express what is happening to the evolving seascape or landscape. Intuition plays a large part in the decision-making and the desire to discover something new and unfamiliar. The work is all about a moment in time and that creates a sense of place.”
