Malvern to Malaga -A Retrospective Exhibition

The theme this year for the Number 8 Pershore exhibition space by artist Jonny Barrett is entitled: ‘Malvern to Malaga: A Retrospective’. Jonny creates and exhibits artworks in both the UK and Spain as he spends 6 months in each country.
He has built a large collection of work based on themes of elemental forces within nature. His evocative images are an intuitive and sensory reaction to the natural environments of both Spain and the UK. He has an exuberant and vibrant use of colour combined with vigorous mark making. He pours overlapping colours, scraping and scratching into the painted surface pigments to create a visceral and unique quality. His most recent works are predominantly abstract and include sewing segments of canvas together to create new energies and challenges.
This is a retrospective collection and covers many subjects but in the main Landscapes, Seascapes and Skyscapes from both countries that dominate the show, spanning several years of John’s practice.
